Sincil Bank Community Art Project - First Painting Day
For the past few weeks I've been working with staff and young people at LEAP Housing and Support in Lincoln on a grand plan to paint murals on the Virgin Media utility boxes around the Sincil Bank area of Lincoln. It started out as an idea to paint the three boxes outside LEAP HQ on Sibthorpe Street, so with input from the young people I put together a design that draws together iconic landmarks from around the city.
Other local community groups and individuals were invited to take part and submit their own designs, so on Tuesday as well as three boxes on Sibthorpe Street, there was also painting happening on two boxes on Charles street (by the Lincoln Art Ninjas) and one on Portland street near Pelham Bridge.
The Art Ninjas box was designed to portray the diverse local community by encorporating the flags of many nationalities that live there, and the portraits are inspired by local characters.
The painting was done by volunteers, and we definitely had our work cut out with 6 boxes to finish in a day! But we pulled it off, and they are already causing a stir around the local area. It's exciting!
